PURPOSE:To simplify the construction and make the operation of detachment, attachment and replacement easier, by laminating a composite membrane plate with a gap therebetween formed by applying a selectively permeable membrane on the surface of a plate-like support substrate having permeability and capability of keeping form. CONSTITUTION:An unit piece of a composite membrane plate 1 is formed by forming a selectively permeable membrane 13 by a wet method for preparing membrane on the surface of a flat-disc-shaped support substrate 2 having openings for flow of liquid 4, 5 consisting of a sintered porous-polyethylene-plate etc. An elastic packing 7 is fitted on the entire periphery of the composite membrane plate 1, while a secondary passage for liquid 8 (discharge passage for permeating liquid), wherein a surface of support substrate having no selectively permeable membrane formed thereon is present, is provided inside said packing 7. And a membrane separator is assembled in such a manner that a plurality of assembled pieces of said composite membrane plates and packings 7 are laminated by connecting said packings 7 so that a primary passage for liquid 11 (flow passage for liquid to be treated) is formed in a gap between each plate.
