PURPOSE:To recognize the reflect further the will of a writer by deciding a small character, which is small and hard to write, without fail. CONSTITUTION:A small character possible character detecting part 9 detects that the recognized result is the character having the possibolity to come to be the small character of 'a', 'b',...'f', etc. An OR gate 10 generates the output when either of plural small possible characters is selected. A table 11 stores a prescribed value (ai) concerning respective small possible characters with '0.5' to 'a' and '0.3' to 'b'. An average value calculating part 12 calculates the mean value AP of a size P of the input character. A comparing part 13, when the output of the OR gate is generated, compares the size P and the mean value AP of the input character, and generates the output when the ratio P/AP is smaller than the prescribed value (ai). An output part 7 outputs the character code of the small character corresponding to the recognized result when the output of the comparing part 13 is executed.
