PURPOSE:To prevent the thermal damage of an endless steel belt by cooling the parts not imposed with metallic powder at both ends in the transverse direction of the steel belt in the stage of placing the metallic powder on the steel belt, moving the same in a heating furnace and subjecting the metallic powder to a continuous heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:The metallic powder 2 is dropped from a charging port 4 onto the endless steel belt 8 and is moved in the heating furnace. While an atmosphere gas 18 is supplied to the furnace in a heating zone 10, the metallic powder 2 is heated by radiant tubes 12 and is thereby subjected to deoxidation and decarburization treatments. The metallic powder is cooled down to a room temp. by a low-temp. atmosphere gas in a cooling zone 14 and is dropped from the belt 8 to be discharged from a discharge port 16. The parts not imposed with the metallic powder at both ends 8B in the transverse direction of the steel belt 8 are higher in temp. than the central part 8A imposed with the metallic powder and therefore, a cooling gas or liquid is blown to said parts from cooling nozzles 24 directed to both ends 8B to eliminate the temp. difference from the central part 8A. Both ends of the steel belt 8 are thus poreented from being subjected to damage such as edge cracks by overheating.
