NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R<1>-R<4> represent alkyl; R represents H or methyl; n is 1-4). EXAMPLE:A compound expressed by formula II. USE:An infrared ray absorber, having improved solubility in an organic solvent and compatibility with such as a film-forming binder, superior near infrared ray insulating ability and great transmittance of the visible region and obtainable at a low cost because of ready synthesis. PREPARATION:Normally, a 1,2-benzenedithiol derivative is dissolved into absolute ethanol and neutralized with KOH and an ethanol solution of a nickel salt and a solution of quaternary phosphonium salt are successively added thereinto and stirred in air or while blowing oxygen thereinto to carry out the reaction.
