PURPOSE:To enhance the safety and efficiency of storage operation, by providing such an arrangement that a coil shifted from a conveyer onto a carrier vehicle by means of a shifter, then a core pipe is inserted into the center hole of the coil during running of the carrier vehicle, and thereafter the core pipe is caught by a stacker crane for storing the coil in a rack type storage. CONSTITUTION:A coil conveyed by a conveyer 2 is shifted onto a coil carrier vehicle 4 at the point A by means of a coil shifter 3. Then, the coil carrier vehicle 4 moves from the point B toward a rack type storage 9. On this way at a point D a core pipe 5 is inserted in the center hole of the coil 1 by means of a core pipe supply device 7. When the coil carrier vehicle 4 arrives at the point C, a stacker crane 10 catches up both ends of the core pipe 5 to elevate the core pipe 5 carrying the coil 1 up to predetermined racks 11, 11', and then bridges the same between the racks 11, 11' for storage of the coil 1. The delivery of the coil is carried out in the reverse order. With this arrangement, it is possible to enhance the safety and the efficiency of coil storage operation.
