PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic erasing head which permits easy control of the track width of a magnetic gap and can generate a substantial erasing magnetic field by forming a thin ferromagnetic metallic film of the core half pair on the advance side of a magnetic recording medium in such a manner that said film inclines at a prescribed angle to magnetic gap forming surface on the surface to contact the magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic core half pair I which is constituted of a magnetic core part 1 consisting of a ferromagnetic oxide such as Mn-Zn ferrite and the thin ferromagnetic metallic film 2 to be deposited on the core part 1 and the core half pair II which is constituted of only the magnetic core part 3 made of the ferromagnetic oxide are united by butting these core half pairs via a gap material consisting of, for example, SiO2, etc., to constitute the magnetic erasing head. The core half pairs are so united that the joint surfaces of the thin ferromagnetic metallic film 2 and the magnetic core part 3 form the magnetic gap (g) of the track width Tw. The angle theta between the thin ferromagnetic film forming surface 1a and the magnetic gap forming surface 5 is preferably set in a 20-80 deg. range. The influence of a pseudo gap and crosstalk, etc., increases if the angle theta is <=20 deg.. Preferably >=30 deg. is provided thereto.
