PURPOSE:To disperse a volume to plural disk devices, to reduce the overhead of an input and an output, and to raise the throughput of a system, by mixing a logical volume and a backup volume in one set of disk device. CONSTITUTION:A volume A10 and a volume B20 are to be placed originally in one set of disk device, but they are divided into two, and distributed and placed as two logical volumes to two sets of disk devices 1, 2. The remaining areas of each disk device 1, 2 are used as backup volumes, respectively, and back up the logical volume on each difference disk device. That is to say, the volume A10 and the volume B20 are backed up by a backup volume A21, and a backup volume B11, respectively, respectively. In such allocated volume constitution, in case a data processor 3 executes an access to an object volume, plural access paths to the disk devices 1, 2 are used.
