PURPOSE:To improve the durability and reproducing characteristic of the titled medium by interposing a thin layer consisting of an org. coated film having lower compressive strength than a polymer film substrate between the polymer film and a ferromagnetic substance layer. CONSTITUTION:The polymer film substrate 1 and the ferromagnetic substance layer 3 formed on the polymer film substrate and consisting of a metallic thin film or a metallic oxide thin film are provided, and a thin film consisting of the org. coated film 2 having lower compressive strength than the polymer film substrate are interposed between the polymer film substrate 1 and the ferromagnetic substance layer 3. The thickness of the org. coated film 2 is preferably regulated to about 0.2-5mum. A Co-Cr film, a metallic magnetic substance film such as a Co-Cr-Ni alloy film, a metallic oxide film, or a double- layered film consisting of a substrate soft magnetic layer and a Co-Cr alloy layer can be used as the magnetic recording layer 3 to be formed on the magnetic coated film 2. Consequently, dropouts are eliminated, durability can be enhanced, and further the electromagnetic transducing characteristics such as frequency characteristics, reproducing outputs, and output variations can be improved.
