PURPOSE:To restrain the production of black smoke and HC and that of noise by forming a recessed channel for air introduction along with that for injection nozzle on the top face of a piston and by providing a projected rib on the internal peripheral wall of a spherical combustion chamber. CONSTITUTION:The injection nozzle recessed channel 7 and the air introduction recessed channel 8 extending from the sections of a piston top face oblique and downward toward the interior of a spherical combustion chamber 5 respectively are formed on the top face of the piston 2. A projected rib 11 is formed, which extends up and downward on the internal peripheral wall of the spherical combustion chamber 5 located in the vicinity of the down stream side of the air introduction recessed channel 8 in relation to a swirl direction. Such spraying promotion of adherent fuel and increase of swirls can restrain the production of NOx and noise along with that of black smoke and HC.
