NEW MATERIAL:An oxazolidine derivative expressed by formula I (R<1> is H or lower alkyl R<2> is H, lower alkyl or lower alkanoyl,; Alk is lower alkylene; Ar is substituted or unsubstituted phenyl; Z is O or S) or a salt thereof. EXAMPLE:N-Methyl-2-{2-( 4-phenylpiperazin-1-yl )ethyloxy]phenyl}oxazolidine-3- carboxamide. USE:A cardiotonic agent. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II or a salt thereof is reacted with a compound expressed by the formula R<1>-NC=Z and, as necessary, the resultant product is then reacted with a compound expressed by the formula R<21>-X<1> (R<21> is lower alkyl or lowert alkenoyl; X<1> is reactive residue) or the compound expressed by formula II or salt thereof is reacted with a compound expressed by the formula (R<3>)3-Si-NC=Z (R<3> is lower alkyl) to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I or salt thereof.
