PURPOSE:To obtain a medium having excellent durability and corrosion resistance by having a protective layer contg. a chlorinated compd. and stabilizer for a vinyl chloride resin. CONSTITUTION:A high-polymer film such as polyester film is used as a nonmagnetic substrate. A thin ferromagnetic film is formed by sticking Fe, Co, Ni or the alloy thereof, etc. onto the surface of the nonmagnetic substrate by a vacuum deposition method, etc. The protective layer is formed by sticking a material prepd. by dissolving the fatty acid of at least partly chlorinated stearic acid, etc. and the ester thereof, etc., together with the stabilizer for the vinyl chloride resin on the substrate by coating, etc. the stabilizer for the vinyl chloride resin includes an inorg. salt such as metallic soap of calcium, etc. and above all, org. phosphite or org. tin compd. such as dibutyl tin laurate and epoxy compd.
