PURPOSE:To obtain an overvoltage preventing circuit at low cost by short- circuiting the output terminal of a solar battery when it is detected by an overcurrent detecting sensor that the output voltage of the solar battery exceeds a prescribed level. CONSTITUTION:Both the voltage V and the current I are secured by a maximum power tracking controller, etc. while the switches 13 and 14 are kept closed so that the output of a solar battery 11 reaches its maximum point Pmax. Then the output voltage of the battery 11 is approximately equal to VS. Under such a condition, the output voltage of the battery 11 exceeds the level VS owing to a face that the switch 13 or 14 is opened. Then an overvoltage sensor 17 detects this fact and closes a contact 17a which is usually opened. Thus a working current flows to a short circuit switch actuating coil 18a from a power supply P via the contact 17a, a reset switch 19, the coil 18a and a power supply N. Then a short circuit switch 18 is closed and the output terminal of the battery 11 is short-circuited.
