PURPOSE:To transfer the top surface shape of a bending projection to the end face of an optical fiber by imposing a heat resistant thin sheet having the bending projection onto an ultrasonic oscillation diaphragm, pressing the end face of the optical fiber to the bending projection and operating the ultrasonic oscillation diaphragm in this state. CONSTITUTION:The thin sheet 12 the bending projection 12a faced upward is imposed on the oscillation diaphragm 1 and the the optical fiber 5 together with a plug 4 is inserted and held to a guide plate 6. The optical fiber 5 is pressed to the flat surface of the bending projection 12a of the thin sheet 12. The ultrasonic oscillation diaphragm 1 under operation and the heat resistant thin sheet 12 in contact therewith rub against each other and the heat resistant thin sheet generates heat when an ultrasonic oscillator 2 is ultrasonically oscillated. The end face of the optical fiber pressed to the bending projection of the heat resistant thin sheet melts consequently. The optical fiber in the molten state cools to solidify instantaneously when the oscillation of the ultrasonic oscillation diaphragm is thereafter stopped. The specular surface of the bending projection is thus transferred to the end face of the optical fiber with high accuracy.
