PURPOSE:To ensure the accurate and complete detection of disks and to prevent the occurrence of malfunctions by performing the reproduction after detecting the states of a disk set on a lift ring and another one set on a turntable respectively. CONSTITUTION:The 1st detection means 15 consisting of a light emitting part 18 and a light receiving part 19 confirms a video disk 1 on a lift ring 2 and sends this confirmation signal to a disk discriminating circuit 17 to move down the ring 2 via a player control circuit 13. Then the 2nd detection means 16 consisting of a light sensor 21 detects the loading of a disk on a turntable 4 and sends this detection signal to the circuit 17 and the circuit 13 to star the reproduction. Thus the presence of the disk 1 is detected by both means 15 and 16 for reproduction. This surely prevents the malfunctions of disks.
