PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance and to realize nonmagnetism, low friction coefficient and low tape damage by forming a hard chromium plating layer to the surface of the nonmagnetic metallic body, applying heat processing at a temperature of a prescribed value or over and applying polish finish after cooling. CONSTITUTION:As the nonmagnetic metallic base, a basic shape (blank) such as a hollow or solid straight shaft or stepped shaft made of an austenite group stainless steel, a high mangan steel or brass as a raw material is used. After chamferring and polishment are applied to the blank, a hard chrominum plating layer processing is applied. The heat treatment is executed at a temperature of 450 deg.C. There is a variation in the effect of the heat treatment at a temperature of 450 deg.C or below. After the heat treatment, the gas cooling method is applied normally. As to the polishing finish after the cooling, the finish polishing by a centerless cut, barrel or buff finish is applied. Thus, the counter tape characteristic is improved.
