PURPOSE:To improve the yield of metallic V by adjusting the grain size of a V2O5 ore to a specific value, by adding to the above a slagging agent and powdered Al for forming a slag into specific composition, and by subjecting the resulting mixture to thermit reaction in a reaction furnace under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:The V2O5 ore is regulated so that its ore size is <=20mm and the one with <=1mm size comprises 5-30wt%. The slagging agent is added so that slag composition ratio satisfies CaO/(CaO+Al2O3)=0.1-0.3, to which the powdered Al is further added. The mixture then is subjected to thermit reaction in the reaction furnace so that the Q value represented by an equation satisfies Q=800-1,000kcal/kg. In this way, metallic V can be manufactured out of V2O5 ore in a yield of >=about 90%.
