At this time, the value of the gamma-RAM 6 is calculated by a CPU 22 by using a pointer P in a RAM 21 according to the printer characteristic formed from the V (surface potential) - D (developing density) characteristic and the E (picture signal) - V characteristic inputted from an input device 20 and the CCD characteristic inputted from the input device 20 and the density characteristic inputted from the input device 20, based on a program ROM 23. A CCDRAM 24, a printer RAM 25, an E-VRAM 26 and a V-DRAM 27 store respective characteristics and the density characteristic is stored in a RAM 21.
