PURPOSE:To rigidly enhance the reliability of a superconducting rotary electric machine by employing a fiber-reinforced plastic in which three-dimensional fabric of insulating fiber is used as a base, as a structural material. CONSTITUTION:The stator of a superconducting rotary electric machine is formed by cutting a groove 2 on a fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) 1 in which glass fiber is arranged in three dimensions as an insulating fiber to match the shape of a winding 3 to be contained. Thereafter, the winding 3 is mounted in the groove 2, and the winding 3 is supported fixedly by a wedge 4 formed of the FRP or a nonmagnetic metal. Thus, when a large-sized FRP structural material is applied to an equipment operated at a low temperature such as a superconducting rotary electric machine, it can avoid a crack or a layer exfoliation due to thermal shrinkage.
