PURPOSE:To reduce the number of pieces of switch for multiplexing by taking out the signals of two systems to be time-base-compressed on a common channel, storing them in a memory in the first order, and reading them in the second order. CONSTITUTION:A pair of color difference signals R-Y and B-Y are subjected to a digital encoding in A/D converters 22 and 23, then taken out on the common channel by a switching switch 33, and made a color difference signal of one system. The compressed color difference signal which is the output of the switch 33 is sequentially stored in a memory 34. The signals thus stored that are color difference signals R-Y and B-Y are in the order of time sequence and alternate at every sample. The contents of even-number addresses in which the signal R-Y are stored, are sequentially read out, then those of odd-number addresses where the signal B-Y are stored are stored. Thereafter, the signals are returned to compressed analog signals by an D/A converter 31.
