NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (X is O or S; Y is alkylene; Z<1>-Z<3> are H, halogen, alkyl or halogenoalkyl; R<1> is alkyl, alkoxy or halogen; R<2>-R<4> are H or alkyl; n is 0 or 1). EXAMPLE:4-Methylthiophene-2-acetic acid (alpha,alpha-dimethyl-4'-chlorobenzyl)amide. USE:A herbicide exhibiting remarkable herbicidal activity especially against gramineous weeds. For example, excellent herbicidal effect is attained to a harmful weed cockspur-grass not only in its sprouting stage but also in the bifoliar stage. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced e.g. by reacting the carboxylic acid halide of formula II (A is halogen) with the amine compound of formula III.
