PURPOSE:To obtain a 9(O)-methanoprostacyclin useful as an antithrombotic agent, etc., by reacting a 5-arylsulfonylisocarbacyclin with a reducing agent and optionally deprotecting, hydrolyzing, etc. CONSTITUTION:A compound shown by formula I (R<21> and R<31> are trihydrocarbon silyl or group which is bonded to oxygen atom of hydroxyl group to form group; R<4> is H, CH3 or vinyl; R<5> is alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl, etc.; n is 0 or 1; Ar is phenyl, etc.; A is group shown by formula II or alkyloxycarbonyl) is reacted with a reducing agent and, if necessary, deprotected and/or hydrolyzed to give a compound shown by formula III. A combination of a hydrogenated alkali metal complex and a Pd compound, one of a hydrogenated organotin compound and a radical initiator or an alkali metal amalgam, etc., is used as the reducing agent.
