PURPOSE:To detect a medium defect concerning all parts which can be recorded during the track of a magnetic disk by initializing and verifying respectively concerning three types at the time of recording respective sectors at a standard position. CONSTITUTION:When a standard numeric value is set to a gap length counter 12 in a G1 generating part 11 and recording contents 23 are recorded, a medium defect 28 enters the DATA of a SEC 3, and therefore, the error is detected, and when the numeric value smaller than a standard numeric value is set to a gap length counter 12, a G1 part comes to be smaller, and is initialized by the format to shift in parallel in the forward direction like recording contents 24. At such a time, a medium defect 26 enters the AM of a SEC 2 and the error is detected. When the numeric value larger than the standard numeric value is set to the gap length counter 12, the G1 part comes to be longer than the standard and is initialized by the format to shift in parallel in the backward direction like recording contents 25. At such a time, a medium defect 27 enters the E of the SEC 2 and the error is detected.
