PURPOSE:To prevent the mixing of a medium with a washing liquid, by recovering the used magnetic material adhered to a thin steel plate after ultrasonic flaw detection by adsorption before the thin steel plate enters a washing tank. CONSTITUTION:In ultrasonic flaw detection, a magnetic fluid 7 as an ultrasonic wave propagating medium 7 is dripped on a thin steel plate immediately before a tire-shaped probe 2 and the probe 2 is allowed to travel over the magnetic fluid to perform flaw detection. Before the steel plate 1 enters a washing tank, the used magnetic fluid 7 adhered to the steel plate 1 is attracted by a magnet 8 and forcibly recovered by a vacuum pump 11 through a nozzle 10. Therefore, the mixing of the medium 7 with a washing liquid is prevented and cost reduction due to the reduction of the replacing frequency of the washing liquid is attained.
