PURPOSE:To decrease a space of a control device and to reduce cost, by a method wherein transistors and diodes to be used in a converter section and an inverter section are constituted in the same characteristics and the same package. CONSTITUTION:Transistors T1-T6 and diodes D1-D6 are connected in parallel, and these are connected in bridge connection and packaged integrally thereby a converter section A is constituted. A variable-voltage variable-frequency inverter section B for driving a motor M is connected to output side of the converter section A through a smoothing capacitor C1. Transistors T7-T12 and diodes D7-D12 in the inverter section B have the same characteristics and are constituted in the same package as that of the transistors T1-T6 and the diodes D1-D6 in the converter section A. A control circuit E supplies regenerative currents in the same phase as the AC source voltage and performs the regenerative control of the motor M.
