PURPOSE:To save energy and improve safety by calculating a theoretical target value of a journal support height by using the theory of beam analysis with the finite element method and automatically adjusting the actual support height by means of a feed forward control thereby shortening the time for centering and performing the centering with high accuracy. CONSTITUTION:Turning a crank shaft 1 by one turn, a deflection amount of each throw at every several divisions of the turning angle is detected with an internal span distance sensor 17. the detected signal is converted with an A/D converter 24 into a digital signal and inputted into a target value operation part 25 of an automatic centering control device 20. Then, an operation is run to determine a theoretical target value. the automatic centering control device 20 performs feed forward control to adjust the supporting height of a claw 9 based on the said target value. Accordingly, it is possible to shorten the work time for centering, perform centering with high accuracy, save energy and improve safety of the work.
