PURPOSE:To obtain a high purity Tb-Gd alloy having high Tb and Gd contents by electrolytically reducing a TbF3-GdF3 mixture in a molten salt electrolytic bath consisting of TbF3, GdF3, LiF, BaF2 and CaF2 and by dropping a liq. Tb-Gd alloy produced on a solid cathode into a receiver in the bath. CONSTITUTION:A Tb compound and a Gd compound are electrolytically reduced in a molten salt electrolytic bath with a solid cathode of a metal capable of being allowed with Tb and Gd, e.g., Fe or Co and a carbon anode. Tb and Gd deposited on the cathode by the reduction are allowed with the metal forming the cathode to obtain a Tb-Gd alloy. At this time, TbF3 and GdF3 are used as the Tb and Gd compounds, respectively, and a mixture consisting of, by weight, 20-95% TbF3+GdF3, 5-80% LiF, <=40% BaF2 and <=20% CaF2 is used as the molten salt electrolytic bath. the liq. Tb-Gd alloy produced on the cathode is dropped into a receiver under the cathode in the form of drops and the accumulated liq. Tb-Gd alloy is taken out.
