PURPOSE:To stop image forming operation which is common among respective image forming means and to decrease the number of components greatly by providing a beam detecting means which detects one of light beams and a counting means which starts counting the beam detection signal from the beam detecting means. CONSTITUTION:The beam detecting means 5 detects the laser beam of a latent image forming means 3a or 4b. Under this condition, the beam detection signal from the beam detecting means 5 begins to be counted in response to the start of image formation by the latent image forming means 3a or 4a. Then when the counting means 6 counts up a counted value corresponding to a prescribed paper size, an image formation range control means 7 stops the latent image forming means 3a and 4a. Thus, the image forming operation which is common between the image forming means can be stopped, so the number of the components of this kind of image forming device is decreased as much as possible.
