PURPOSE:To obtain a separation membrane excellent in stability with time and gas permeability by heat-treating a membrane-like material manufactured from a polymer of silylacetylene in the presence of vapor of a substance having 100-500 deg.C/5mmHg b.p. CONSTITUTION:A membrane-like material manufactured from a polymer contg. a structural unit shown in a formula is heat-treated in the presence of vapor of a substance having 100-500 deg.C/5mmHg b.p. The polymer contg. at least 50mol% structural unit shown in the formula is used and MW of the polymer is necessarily regulated to not less than 10<5>. As an organic substance necessary in a time of heat treatment, organic acid ester, amines, alcohols, hydrocarbons and organopolysiloxanes are used. Such an effect that the change with time for the membrane is reduced is obtained by absorbing this vapor on the surface of a substituted polyacetylene membrane.
