PURPOSE:To maintain the sharpness of a picture part carried by the high level area of a picture signal at a high level, and to obtain an image of high quality, by inputting the picture signal which carries a bit of image information to a high frequency component reducing means, and reducing a high frequency component corresponding to the lowering of the level of the picture signal. CONSTITUTION:The analog output signal of a photomultiplier 17 is inputted to a frequency characteristic variable amplifier 21, and an LPF25 as a read picture signal S which carries the light quantity of accelerated emitting light 15, or, a bit of radial image information, through a logarithmic converter 20. A read picture signal S' amplified at an amplifier 21 is changed to a digital read picture signal Sd by an A/D converter 22, and is inputted to an image reproducing device 24 through an image processing circuit 23, and reproduces a radial image accumulated and recorded by a cumulative phosphor sheet 10. And much of high frequency noise component is included in a low level area corresponding to a weak accelerated emitting light, therefore, by passing the read picture signal S through the LPF25, and inputting it to the operational amplifier 21a in the frequency characteristic variable amplifier 21, it is amplified corresponding to the value of a control voltage inputted to a multiplier 21b, then being outputted as the read picture signal S'.
