PURPOSE:A safe and excellent sunscreen cosmetic, obtained by blending a specific zinc oxide, readily available at a low cost and capable of preventing liver- spot and ephelis of the skin, suppressing and preventing harmful ultraviolet rays within the UV-A region. CONSTITUTION:A sunscreen cosmetic obtained by blending fine particulate zinc oxide having 70-300mmu average particle diameter in an amount of 1-25wt% or further using fine particulate titanium oxide having 30-70mmu average particle diameter (preferably the crystal form thereof is rutile type) together. The above-mentioned fine particulate zinc oxide or fine particulate titanium oxide or both are preferably hydrophobized with methylhydrogenpolysiloxane or diethylpolysiloxane for use. The cosmetic is capable of scattering and absorbing ultraviolet rays within the UV-A region in ultraviolet rays harmful to the skin and preventing the suntan.
