PURPOSE:To enable a paper to be surely detected even though the paper is brought into contact with a cover glass by detecting the presence or absence of the transferred paper by a light emitting element and a photosensitive element accommodated in element accommodating chambers provided on both sides of a partition provided in a casing. CONSTITUTION:A casing 14 is provided with element accommodating chambers 12 and 13 on both sides of a partition 11. The element accommodating chambers 12 and 13 accommodate a light emitting element 15 and a photosensitive element 16, respectively. The top of the partition 11 opposing the heads of the light emitting element 15 and the photosensitive element 16 is formed with a notch 18. When a paper 10 is apart from the surface of a cover glass 17 by a constant distance, since the light from the light emitting element 15 is reflected from the surface of the paper 10 and surely reaches the photosensitive element 16, the paper 10 can be surely detected. Further, also when the paper 10 is brought into contact with the surface of the cover glass 17, the light from the light emitting element 15 pass the notch 18 and is reflected from the surface of the paper 10 at a relatively small angle, the reflected light surely reaching the photosensitive element 16. Accordingly, the paper 10 and its terminal end can be surely detected.
