PURPOSE:To uniformize the compressing force in the transverse direction of rolls by connecting a driving roll shaft and driven roll shaft by a unidirectional torque transmission mechanism and rotating the driven roll shaft at the speed lower than the speed of the driving roll shaft. CONSTITUTION:A gear 13 is mounted via a ratchet 12 to one end of a top roll shaft 11 as the driven roll shaft and is engaged with a gear 14 of a feed roll shaft 9. The number of teeth of the gear 13 is made larger than the number of teeth of the gear 14. The top roll 7 rotates slower than the roll 2 during no-load operation. The compressing forces between the rolls 7 and 2 and be tween the rolls 7 and 3 are adjusted by cylinders 15, 23 to transmit the driving force of the roll 2 to the material to be compressed by the friction force of said material during the load operation when the material to be compressed is supplied. The ratchet idles and the engaging reaction of the gears 13, 14 is eliminated. The compressing force in the transverse direction of the rolls is thus made uniform.
