PURPOSE:To simplify the structure of a magnetic head assembly by providing a medium guide guiding a medium so as not to be latched on the side face of the magnetic head thereby precluding the possible difficulty in loading/ejection due to the medium and its jacket being brought into contact with the side face of the magnetic head and enabling easy loading/ejection. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic head 4 tends to move upward by the action of a leaf spring 2 at unloading, the upward movement is limited by a gimbal 3 in contact with stoppers 8a, 8b to prevent that the side face of the magnetic head 4 is jumped upward from medium guides 7a, 7b. Thus, in loading or ejecting the medium 12 and its jacket 13 to/from the upper face of the magnetic head 4, since the medium 12 and its jacket 13 are guided by the medium guides 7a, 7b they are loaded/ejected easily without swinging back the carriage 1.
