PURPOSE:To avoid the miserasion with a magnetic recording/reproducing device by performing the fine tracking adjustment before the signals recorded on a tracking are erased and then carrying out a prescribed erasing action based on the position of a magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:An erasion mode is set when an erasion mode setting switch SW6' is turned on in a reproduction mode set after an automatic tracking action is carried out in the reproduction mode. Then the information is erased when an erasion executing switch SW7' is turned on. When the erasion of information is carried out in a reproduction mode, an automatic tracking action is performed and then a magnetic head 4 is moved by a distance equal to each step set before and after the set position for said automatic tracking action. Thus the information is erased twice. In such a way, the complete erasion is secured with no miserasion even in such a case the track width of a recording mode is larger than the track width of the head 4.
