PURPOSE:To enable the application of compact design to an automatic tool exchange device and a tool magazine only through the exchange of a cutter module by providing an assembly head on a spindle for mounting and dismounting a holder module and the cutter module. CONSTITUTION:There is provided within the spindle 2 of a machining center proper, a holder module 24 comprising a modular tool through the hollow part of the spindle 2, and an assembly head 23 is provided to assemble and disassemble the holder module 24 and a cutter module 13. And in exchanging the cutter module 13 coupled to the holder module 24 of the machining center spindle 2 for a cutter module stored in a tool magazine, an automatic tool exchange device is used via assembly and disassembly by the assembly head 23. Consequently, only the cutter module needs an exchange, thereby enabling the application of compact design to the automatic tool exchange device and the tool magazine.
