PURPOSE:To obviate a flow straightening plate by that a manhole is made in elliptic shape, and to secure safety by that upper side from an outside wall is made a circular manhole and a landing is formed at the junction between the circle and the ellipse. CONSTITUTION:A water wheel 3 is installed in a water flow path 2, and a manhole 7 to inspect inside of the water wheel 3 is installed. Upper side from an outside wall 1 of the manhole 7 is made a circular manhole 7a, and portion in the water flow path 2 is made an elliptic manhole 7b. Since the manhole in the water flow path is made in elliptic shape, generation of whirlpool in the water flow path can be prevented and a flow straightening plate becomes unnecessary. A landing 7c can be provided at junction between manholes 7a and 7b, thereby safety is improved.
