PURPOSE:To inspect the package of parts with a high speed by irradiating a parts mounted on a printed circuit board with orthogonal slit light beams slantingly from above, photographing them by a television camera, and performing comparison arithmetic based on the image. CONSTITUTION:The chip parts 1 is irradiated with the slit light beams from slit light beam emitting parts 12 and 13 slantingly from above. The slit light beam 16 projected on the chip parts 1 and a slit light beam 17 projected on the printed circuit board 2 shift in position according to the thickness of the chip parts 1 and do not continue. Their images are photographed by the television camera 6 and then the slit light beam 16 on the chip parts 1 and the slit light beam 17 on the printed circuit board 2 are discriminated from each other. A CPU 4 computes the length from the intersection point to each end in the image of the slit light beam projected on the parts by the comparison arithmetic by using the image to decide whether or not the parts 1 is arranged at a correct position.
