PURPOSE:To obtain the large hollow steel ingot having no surface crack and good inner quality by blowing directly coolant gas on the inner face of a core as permissible to buckling of the core at the time of solidifying as cooling molten steel poured between a mold and the metallic cylindrical core. CONSTITUTION:The core 4 has a constitution, in which a cooling gas is blown from a blowing nozzle 8 at circumference of a cooling gas vessel 9 to the metallic cylinder 6 through a space opening 7a of a buckling adjusting frame 7, as forming gap G between the cylinder 6 and the cylindrical grid shaped buckling adjusting frame 7 as a buckling room. At the time of casting, the core 4 is laid at center part of a polygonal ingot mold 2 having corrugated shape in each side on a base plate 1 and the molten steel is poured into a casting space S from a rising gate 5 through a runner 3 as blowing the cooling gas supplied from the gas vessel 9 to the cylinder 6, to solidify. In this away, the large hollow steel ingot having no surface crack and a little inner inversed V segregation is produced.
