PURPOSE:To attain an overall compact structure of a tape recorder by using a switching circuit which secures the common use between the forward an reverse outputs of an FET connected to each signal output side of a head and connecting those outputs to each channel input side of a reproduction amplifier to supply a DC potential to the gate of the FET. CONSTITUTION:A changeover switch 29 is opened in a forward mode and the FET9 and 11 and heads 1 and 3 are activated by the bias voltage extracted out of a terminal T1. While a sound recording mode is secured when a changeover switch 22 is kept open and both L and R input signals are supplied to the heads 1 and 3. These input signals are recorded on a tape in a co-action with the bias current delivered from a bias oscillator 21. In a reverse mode, the FETs 9 and 11 are inactivated with the FETs 10, 12 activated respectively. Thus the heads 2 and 4 are activated. Then the switch between the reproducing and recording actions is carried out by the switch 22 like in the case of the forward mode. Thus the FET can be distributed at optional positions of a printed circuit board and a compact type recorder is obtained.
