发明名称 SHEET-FORM BASE MATERIAL FOR FRICTION MATERIAL AND PRODUCTION THEREOF
摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the title base material having a high performance efficiently and inexpensively, by adding water to a sheet composed of a rigid fiber and a hydrophilic binder to swell the binder and needling the sheet to orient the fiber at an angle to the surface of the sheet. CONSTITUTION:85-98pts.wt. rigid fiber (e.g., glass fiber or carbon fiber) and 15-2pts.wt. water-soluble or water-swellable binder (e.g., fibrous polyvinyl alcohol are used as principal ingredients to form a sheet. Water is added to the sheet to swell the binder, thus relaxing the bond. While the binder is viscous, the sheet is needled by using a needle punching machine, etc., to orient part of the rigid fiber at an angle to the surface of the sheet, thus obtaining the desired sheet-form base material for friction materials. The base material is suitable for use as a base material for a friction material used for the clutch of an automobile.
