PURPOSE:To improve the responsiveness for updating a picture by updating only the discordant codes between the picture information and the picture to be updated with reference to a control table then updating a part of the picture corresponding to the replaced code when the input information is intermitted. CONSTITUTION:When the picture information to be updated is supplied to a buffer part 1, the part 1 compares the picture information with that so far stored and updates the character codes having no coincidence of contents to set a flag. When the scan is through with a single picture and the input is intermitted, a control part 2 scans again the part 1 and finds out the updated character code by checking the flag. Then the contents of the updated character code are converted into the picture information like characters, patterns, etc. with reference to a control table 4 and a part of the screen corresponding to the replaced code is replaced. Meanwhile the table 4 extracts the character information or the graphic information according to each code and displays the picture information synthesized from both character and graphic information on a display device 3.
