PURPOSE:To prevent a seawater handling equipment from a trouble due to maritime animals or seawater, elongate the life of the equipment system and improve the reliability of the same by a method wherein seawater, reserved in the seawater using equipment, is diluted by employing fresh water and the diluted seawater is circulated through the circulating system of the equipment while at least one solution of bactericide, protecting film forming agent and anticorrosion agent is poured into the diluted seawater. CONSTITUTION:A seawater pump 1 is stopped simultaneously with the finish of the operation of a system and a water drop preventing valve b is closed while a pouring valve 14 is opened to pour clean fresh water, city water or the like from a fresh water pouring line 13 into the system. In this case, a seawater discharging valve 16 is opened simultaneously to discharge drain corresponding to the poured fresh water, reduce the concentration of salt content in the seawater gradually and dilute the seawater. According to this method, seawater in the system of the equipment from a non-return valve 3 to the water drop preventing valve 5 is diluted by the fresh water. Further, water in the system is circulated by a circulating pump 12 while adding the water in a surge tank 11 with chlorine or the solution of sodium hypochlorite from a pouring pipeline 8 after the seawater in the system is diluted sufficiently with fresh water whereby sterilization in the system is effected by chlorine and the custody of the seawater handling equipment under the fresh water sterilizaion may be effected.
