PURPOSE:To quickly and accurately perform preparation of documents by correctly only characters having attributes not read correctly by a handwritten character recognizing device. CONSTITUTION:A handwritten character recognizing device 2 searches for similar characters for characters that were not recognized correctly, and classifies characters into those for which similar characters are found and those for which similar characters are not found. For those recognized correctly, and for those not recognized correctly and similar characters are found, character codes to which attributes are added at the time of display on the screen of a CRT 5 are transferred as character data. For those not recognized correctly and similar characters are not found, pattern data to which attributes at the time of display on the screen are added are transferred as character data. Attributes given to characters are for distinguishing characters when they are displayed on the screen, and as ways of distinguishing, for instance, using different colors, adding of an underline, flickering, reverse display etc., can be used.
