PURPOSE:To easily produce high-quality glass contg. large-size TiO2 by immersing a porous form into a soln. contg. Ti to diffuse Ti into the porous body and thereafter sintering it. CONSTITUTION:Silica sol is synthesized by hydrolyzing alkylsilicate and adding fine powdery silica thereto. The pH of silica sol is regulated and it is allowed to gel to produce wet gel and dry gel is obtained by drying the wet gel. A porous body is produced by sintering this dry gel. After immersing the porous body into a soln. contg. Ti and diffusing it into the porous body, TiO2-SiO2 glass is produced by sintering this porous body.
