PURPOSE:To attain highly accurate length measurement by inclining cursors at an optimum angle about the accuracy of measurement, selecting a digital pattern most close to an ideal straight line and expressing the selected pattern by multivalue density. CONSTITUTION:Two digital density display cursors with multivalue density are displayed on a display terminal 74 and the positions and inclinations of the cursors are controlled by a track ball 75. The cursors are inclined at an optimum angle about the accuracy of measurement. At that time, an ideal straight line formula with an optional length is supposed by a computer 72 and the position and inclination of the straight line are calculated based on the movement of the track ball 75. Then picture elements constituting the digital cursors and the density of the picture elements are calculated and the measured values are outputted.
