PURPOSE:To enable a suitable defrosting operation to be performed while EER during a heating operation is improved to its max. by a method wherein, a decreased capability of operation caused by frosting is changed over to a defrosting operation by calculating a time to cause a result of calculation of a heating capability to be maximum. CONSTITUTION:A time (tu) in which a mean capability (heating capability) at a time when an immediately before defrosting operation time (td) and an after-heating operation time are calculated shows the maximum value is periodically calculated and the most suitable defrosting time (tu) is estimated, thereby the defrosting operation when required is carried out. As a result, the defrosting operation can effectively be performed while a heating accumulative operating capability is always at its maximum value. Therefore, even in case that a surrounding temperature is low and the air is dry, defrosting operation is not initialed while a heating capability has a surplus amount until the calculated value of the heating capability becomes maximum, so that an occurrence of wasteful defrosting operation can be prevented.
