In this instrument, a pointer shaft (2) is constructed as optical waveguide. At its end opposite the pointer (3), the pointer shaft (2) has a circular disc (7) with a light injection area (8) via which light from a light source (9) can pass into the circular disc (7) from where it can overflow through the pointer shaft (2) into the pointer (3). <IMAGE>
