Method and apparatus for the production of castings

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for the production of castings, especially dental prosthesis parts. In this method, a wax model (5 to 8) of a dental prosthesis part is arranged in a casting space, into which an embedding compound is introduced. The casting space is formed by a muffle ring (1) which is mounted on a baseplate (4). As the muffle ring (1) use is made of a plastic ring which, on the one hand, is strong enough to receive and hold the embedding compound and, on the other hand, is sufficiently flexible to present essentially no resistance to the expansion movements of the embedding compound during the setting process. The inner surface of the plastic ring is provided with undulations or serrations (2) such that the outer surface of the block of embedding compound produced in it has a complementary undulation or serration (2') following the setting process. After removal of the muffle ring (1), the block of embedding compound is heated in a preheating furnace. <IMAGE>
