Specific effects of and changes in materials can be visualised using polarised light, and the appropriate devices for this purpose are known as polariscopes. The invention relates to a reflection polariscope which, as a consequence of the coaxial arrangement of polarizer and analyser and a ring lamp which illuminates without shadows, is exceptionally compact and is mounted as an attached device on the lens of a miniature reflex camera (35 mm). With the aid of this combination of camera and polariscope, it is possible to work without a stand if the flash device is used, specifically even in narrow structures which are accessible only with difficulty, e.g. in the building of aircraft or vehicles.
