PURPOSE:To form hydroxy apatite having high quality which is useful as a material for living bodies, etc., in a short time by allowing a liquid mixture contg. at least one kind of condensed phosphate (salt) to react with a liquid mixture contg. at least one kind of scarcely soluble or easily soluble Ca compd. at <=a specified temp. CONSTITUTION:A P-source material is obtd. by mixing condensed phosphate expressed by the formula I (wherein M is H, alkali metal, NH3) and having a linear structure (e.g. pyrophosphoric acid), etc., or at least one kind of Na or K salt thereof. Then, a Ca source is obtd. by mixing a scarcely soluble Ca compd. such as CaO or at least one kind of soluble Ca compd. such as CaCl2. The P-source is mixed with the Ca-source in 1.3-1.9 proportion expressed in terms of the molar ratio of Ca/P. After allowing the obtd. mixture to react at <=100 deg.C while holding the alkalinity of the mixture, the product having finished the reaction is treated at >=700 deg.C and crystallized.
